We want to share our findings with Vecinxs Unidxs. In terms of Carleton’s ability to assist in alleviating some of the burdens that these marginalized people endure is rally signatures and support for the legislation that Vecinxs Unidxs, who is promoting this event under the non-partisan faith organization named ISAIAH, is pushing for that is the Driver Licenses for All. This is due to the 2005 Federal REAL ID act that was passed and enforced in 2007 that practically made it impossible for people without documentation to be able to register for a driver license. In response, after our group agreed to the idea that since I, Ozzy, serve on the Carleton Student Association Senate where I serve as the Class Representative of 2022 to present to CSA a preposition to alert the student campus through a school-wide email to rally support toward the proposed legislation that would allow for everyone--in particular undocumented people--to register for driver licenses. Through this meeting that occured on the 4th of March, 2019 and further communication with Mar, CSA is willing to send out the emails--I personally will be sending out the class email--that will include a format that explains how to send support to our corresponding Senator.
Call your senator and ask them to support restoring driver’s licences for all!
Dial this number 651-964-3859 and enter your zip code (we are using this number to help us track how many calls we are generating to specific senators). You will be connected to your senator’s office. It is most likely you will reach a voicemail. Leave a message like this one:
“Hello my name is ___________ and my address is __________. I am a constituent asking you to support restoring the right for everyone who lives in Minnesota to get a driver’s license.
Every Minnesotan deserves the ability to connect to family, work, school and community. Licensed drivers and working families help create the state we all need to thrive. Years ago, driver’s licenses were taken from some of our families by a few politicians who used fear and division to divide us.
I urge you to support to restoring driver’s licenses for all and use your position in the senate to ensure it gets a hearing. Thank you.”
We want to continue going to the meetings Vecinxs Unidxs has and help out in any way we can with further projects. Carleton and St. Olaf students are not as present in these meetings, yet these issues need the support of all members of the community.
